Yubnub your Google bar.

Reading time ~1 minute

I know that sounds pretty dirty, but it really isn’t. This post is a little how to on getting the most possible out of your address bar. This particular set of instructions is for firefox but can be easily adapted to any current browser. Yubnub is a website that is basically the internet’s version of a Command Line Interface. What this means is that Yubnub has all sorts of functionality that users have built in just by creating commands. You don’t have to create any commands to get a lot of power out of Yubnub though. Most of the dirty work has already been done. There are multiple thousands of commands waiting to be used. They highlight the best commands by calling them “Golden Eggs” and listing them on a page. the most simple commands look something like this: “g your search query” or “gi kittens” for a google image search of kittens.

Now, Lets get started.

  1. Type about:config into the address bar of firefox and hit enter. You will probably want to do this in a different tab.

  2. Search for keyword.

  3. Right click the key that has a google address and select modify.

  4. Replace the google address with “http://yubnub.org/parser/parse?command=”

  5. Save and close the about:config page.

  6. In your address bar type “g kittens”.

  7. Go to yubnub.org to find tons of other commands that are available.

  8. Profit.
